How to Export Coconut Charcoal Briquettes from Indonesia

· By PT Kora Prima Abadi · 5 min read

If you are searching for how to export coconut charcoal briquettes from Indonesia, you will mostly meet student theses and supplier directories. This note puts the steps in order, links the sources we could open, and says plainly where we found nothing.

A disclosure first: this site is published by PT Kora Prima Abadi, one of the producers it discusses. Kora appears below as one example among several, not as a recommendation. We found no rule written specifically for coconut shell charcoal, so those parts are questions to put to the agencies rather than answers.

How to export coconut charcoal briquettes: the six steps

Read the six steps in order. Each one ends with a document or a decision you can show to your buyer.

Step 1: register the business

A DDTCNews report (published August 2023, read 22 Oct 2026) quotes the head of the Soekarno-Hatta Customs Office. The order it gives: get an NIB through the OSS portal, register with Customs, and install the PEB module. Have your tax number and ID ready as well. The article is three years old, so check Customs’ own site for the current procedure.

If you plan to buy from a maker and export under your own brand, the exporter duties are still yours. A contract maker handles production, not your export registration. The process page shows who does what.

Step 2: fix the HS code and check restrictions

The same report says officers check the HS code and confirm the goods are not prohibited or restricted. We do not print an HS code for briquettes because we have not read an official source for it; one thesis we saw gives a number, and a thesis is not a tariff schedule. Look it up in the BTKI or ask a Customs office, then use the same code on the invoice, packing list and PEB.

Step 3: specification and quotation

Overseas buyers usually ask for a specification sheet first: ash, moisture, fixed carbon, shape, size and packing. Be careful, because printed figures from different makers are often not like for like. We explain why in our note on specification figures.

Minimum volumes also differ by maker. What these pages print (read 22 Oct 2026):

Maker What it prints about volume
PT Coco Total Karbon Indonesia 1 ton for LCL to the USA and Russia; 18 tons per 20 ft container elsewhere
Kora Coconut MOQ discussed at inquiry; 1 kg inner and 10 kg master pack

The table copies what each page says. It is not a ranking, and we have not verified any maker’s capacity. If you only need a small test volume, ask whether LCL or mixed shapes are possible. See also MOQ and terms.

Step 4: quarantine and the certificate

Kora lists a phytosanitary certificate among the documents with each shipment, beside the COA, certificate of origin, packing list and bill of lading. Whether your goods must carry one, we could not confirm from a rule for coconut shell charcoal. The nearest case we found: in April 2025 the West Java quarantine office issued certification for 8.9 tons of burnt rice husk bound for the Netherlands, after checking documents and goods, according to detikFinance (read 22 Oct 2026). That is not charcoal, so treat it as a picture of the process only.

The practical move is to call the regional office of the Plant, Fish and Animal Quarantine Centre and ask two things: do my goods need a certificate, and what does the destination country require.

Step 5: shipping documents and terms

Per the DDTC source, the basic set is the invoice, packing list and bill of lading. The terms Kora prints on its product page are FOB or CIF at an Indonesian port, with payment by L/C at sight, T/T or escrow, and D/P for established buyers. Pick the payment route whose risk you understand, and settle who books the vessel space and who carries the risk if the cargo is damaged.

Step 6: the export declaration (PEB)

For small volumes, parcels through a courier or post can be used and the operator files the PEB. For large volumes the cargo route applies, and the exporter or a customs service provider files it. A container of briquettes sits in the second group.

What overseas buyers usually ask

  • A full specification sheet with test methods, not a single line of figures.
  • A physical sample, and who pays to ship it.
  • Packing: the Kora page prints a 1 kg inner pack in a 10 kg master carton, and PT Coco Total Karbon Indonesia prints 18 tons per 20 ft container for some destinations. The real load depends on shape and packing, so ask for a written loading plan.
  • The documents that travel with the shipment, and whether a lab report applies to the lot you ship.
  • Payment terms and production time. No maker page we read prints a production time, so put it in the quotation.

Common slips

  • Issuing an invoice before the HS code is certain.
  • Accepting a specification with no test method and no basis (as received or dry).
  • Ordering printed packs before the sample is approved in writing; see signing off a briquette sample in writing.
  • Assuming another maker’s certificate covers your lot.

What this note leaves out

We do not write export duty, quotas or bans, because we read no source for them. We do not quote export prices either. Check the rules in force on the day you ship.

Comparing makers

Use the checklist for choosing a maker on every candidate, Kora included. If you want Kora in the comparison, read the private label briquette page and send your volume and destination through the contact page. First reply within two business days.

Questions buyers ask

What is the first step to export coconut charcoal briquettes?

Hold an NIB issued through the OSS system, then register with Customs so you can use the export declaration (PEB) module. After that, fix the HS code and confirm the goods are not prohibited or restricted.

Do coconut charcoal briquettes need a phytosanitary certificate?

Kora lists a phytosanitary certificate among its shipment documents. We found no rule written for coconut shell charcoal, so ask your regional quarantine office whether your goods need one and what the destination country asks for.

What minimum order do briquette makers ask for export?

It differs. PT Coco Total Karbon Indonesia prints 1 ton for LCL shipments to the USA and Russia, and 18 tons per 20 ft container elsewhere (read 22 Oct 2026). Kora discusses MOQ at inquiry.

What is the HS code for coconut charcoal briquettes?

We do not state one here because we have not read an official source. The exporter assigns the HS code and Customs checks it, so verify it in the tariff schedule (BTKI) or with a Customs office before you issue the invoice.
